it's kinda strange when your hands and ears go numb from the cold, but at the same time, the glare of the sun hurts your eyes. nights are miserable, because nights descend upon davis at 6. today i walked out of class at 530pm, and it was as dark as a singaporean 830. now i understand the extent of short winter days.
that doesn't mean i'm not enjoying myself though. now that school's started, i'm enjoying classes because they're a far cry from classes at home. i'm taking something called gender and global cinema, it involves watching 14 films (some international..) and then discussing perspectives and racial, national identity and gender issues. given, the hours of the class are pretty bad - tues thurs 4-6, wed 7-10 - and going home is especially scary in the dark..i'm excited about hearing what americans have to say about race, national identity and gender!
i'm also taking techinical things for my major, like cell biology (which has been okay) and molecular biology. now, the latter is a classic example that how boring a topic is transcends space. i suppose the approach of the lecture stimulates more thinking (very very true) but seriously, i can't take very much of DNA and RNA and the works..it's tedious and boring where-ever i go. biostats is also boring. because he's going through very basic things i've already done in my other stats class. linguistics looks promising though. i can prob tell you more when the lectures start proper tmr.
i do enjoy the style of lecture though. it's very interactive. i feel a little more interest in class (yes, unbelievably so, even for molecular bio). the pace looks set to be fast though. after looking at the syllabus of each course...it seems pretty ambitious for 10 weeks, and can only mean school will be tiring. and i get homework..a lot of homework..most of which will be graded. plus a couple of papers. and many midterms..and for the first time in my university life, i have a final exam for every single course i'm taking! ): and some of the final exams are worth 25%.
i also suppose filling my time with school work and studying and some travelling will make time move a little faster..so june will arrive soon..and i can have some serious fun and plenty of lovin'!! (: oh baby....blink blink blink!
